LES MÈTRES : Le dimanche matin, quand il fait beau et qu'il n'a pas de jardin de bourgeois à aller bêcher ou de fosse à merde débordante à aller déboucher, papa ouvre la fenêtre, celle sur la rue, et il répare des mètres.

Le = the (for masculine singular)

La = the (for feminine singular)

Les = the (for both masculine and femine in plural)

Le dimanche = the sunday / can mean on sunday or on sundays.

Le dimanche matin = the sunday morning

Le matin = the morning

Quand = when

Il = he or it

Elle = she

Il fait = he does or makes or it does or makes

Beau (masc) / belle (fem) = beautiful

Il fait beau = the weather is fine

Et = and

Que = that (I think that)

Le jardin = the garden

 

Avoir = to have / he has = il a / il n’a pas = he has not // il n’a pas de = he has no // il n’a pas de jardin = he has no garden

Avoir = to have to // il a à aller = he has to go

Le bourgeois = person belonging to a rich class

Aller = to go > aller bêcher = to go to dig, to go for digging

La fosse = the pit // la merde = the shit > la fosse à merde = the shitpit (cesspit)

Déborder = to overflow > débordant (masc) = overflowing // débordante (fem) < le nord = the edge

Déboucher =  to uncork < boucher = to cork

Le papa = the dady

Ouvrir = to open > il ouvre = he opens / he is opening

La fenêtre = the window

Celle (fem) = the one // celui (masc)

Sur = on

La rue = the street

Réparer = to repair > il répare = he repairs

Le mètre = the meter stick
